“Sometimes it makes my head swell.” – 2Baba on Music and Fan love.

Nigerian music icon 2Baba made his
debut on Coke Studio Africa 3, paired with
Tanzanian pop princess Vanessa Mdee. He
returns to the show this year alongside Ugandan songstress Rema Namakula in
collaborations produced by France-based
DSK (originally from Ivory Coast). While
recording the show, 2Baba took over
Coke Studio Africa’s weekly Artist Takeover to
answer his fans’ questions. Here is what we discovered from the African Queen
and Oya Come Make We Go
singer:

Real Names
His government name is Innocent Ujah
Idibia
and he took up 2 Face idibia as
his stage name. He recently changed to the moniker
2Baba, which stands for the monumental
respect his industry has granted him. While in Kenya, 2Baba turned 41. He celebrated his
day in true superstar style; hosting two VIP parties
at a Nairobi club. He mentioned that his fans should
get to know him through his Snapchat, Twitter and
Instagram – which he says he handles
personally.

On Music & Fan Love
2Baba admitted that he reveres the
respect and love his fans give him, jesting:
“Sometimes it makes my head swell.”

He said he has done a documentary titled Crazy Love on his relationship with
his fans. When it comes to his secret on hit
collaborations, he said: “I have to connect with you
whether it is the vibes, friendship or
personalities.”

On Coke Studio Africa 3, 2Baba and Vanessa Mdee’s collaboration in the song
All I Need To Know written and
produced by Cobhams Asuquo was one
of the most watched YouTube videos, surpassing a
million views a few months after upload. As for the
collaborations on season 4, he said: “Expect good organic music that fuses creativity and the season’s
Discover theme. I am working with Rema from Uganda – she is cool.”
He revealed that he will also collaborate with Granmah’s Regina – a “talented
babe from Mozambique” on a song called Today.

Nothing Over Music
With a career spanning over two decades, 2Baba revealed to fans that if he did not
become a musician he would have been a footballer for his backyard team the Lobi
Stars
. He mentioned Lionel
Messi and Jay-Jay Okocha as
some of his favourite footballers and further
promised that he would be releasing more good
music this year.

Three Things He Can’t Live Without
2Baba said that he couldn’t do
without ‘My voice, band and microphone’. 2Baba
couldn’t stop revealing that he was working on a new album, and planned to collaborate again with
top artistes P-Square and Wizkid,
as a follow up to their past hits. He also mentioned
that he is a huge fan of US rapper Nas and
would love to work with him: “I am a disciple of
Nas.”

If 2Baba was President
“I am not cut out for politics as I am too soft,”
he said, but added that he continues to run his
2Baba Foundation.

“We offer service to humanity and we do whatever we have to do to keep helping make the
society a better place.”
